S. 2801 is sponsored by Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Sen. Steve Daines of Montana.  H.R. 5713 is sponsored by Rep. Carol Shea-Porter of New Hampshire and Rep. Trent Kelly of Mississippi.

Countless Guardsmen have been waiting far too long for their promotions due to delays beyond their control. These undue delays negatively impact the retention, morale and military careers of thousands of service members.  This important legislation would provide officers back-pay and time in grade, as well as require the Army and Air Force to thoroughly review the National Guard officer promotions process and recommend efficiencies to Congress.

Passing the National Guard Promotion Accountability Act would ensure Guardsmen are not paying the price for bureaucratic delays and antiquated processes.  Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our Armed Forces.

Legislation: Back Pay for Promotion Delay

NGAUS expects bipartisan legislation to be introduced today in the House and Senate that would provide National Guard officers with back pay to the date of their state promotions once their boost in rank is recognized by the Defense Department.

It would also require the service secretaries to review the entire promotion process and recommend fixes that would prevent long delays between state promotions and federal recognition of those promotions.        Click Here to read article

NGAUS Take Action – Expand TRICARE Reserve Select

Please contact your Senators and urge them to co-sponsor and support S. 1086.

Please contact your Representatives and urge them to co-sponsor and support H.R. 5121.

TAKE ACTION

NGAUS strongly supports S. 1086 and H.R. 5121, which would expand TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility to all federal employees. This would expand health care choice for the more than 70,000 dual status military technicians in the National Guard and Reserve.

S. 1086 is sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah and Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia.  H.R. 5121 is sponsored by Rep. Trent Kelly of Mississippi and Rep. Jacky Rosen of Nevada.

Current law prohibits access to TRS for actively serving National Guard and Reserve servicemembers who serve as federal employees in their civilian employment. This can create confusion and lead to more expensive health care for servicemembers and their families, as well as prevent continuity of care as servicemembers deploy or transition in or out of the federal workforce.

Passing this important legislation would ensure Guardsmen, Reservists, and their families have greater choice and equal access to competitive health coverage premiums arising from their military service.  Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our Armed Forces.
