EANGUS The Call #11-8; 16 Nov 2011

The Call: 11-8 “Continued C-17 Globemaster Production”

The Issue: With the no plans by the Air Force to modernize the 32 existing C-5As, additional production of an absolute minimum level of C-17s is needed.
Immediate Action Required: Please request your Senators to support continued production of C-17s:

With the C-17 assembly line rapidly coming to a close in the next 24 – 36 months, it is vital to our country’s national security that additional C-17s are procured before final termination of production. As the only American built heavy lift aircraft in manufacture today, continuation of the C-17 is of grave importance to our industrial base.

It is not surprising that the last oldest C-5As are only operated by Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units. The Air Force has no plans whatsoever to modernize the remaining 32 C-5As and has called for their retirement. At present, the New York Air Guard is transitioning from C-5As to C-17s at Stewart Air National Guard Base, New York. On the other hand, there are no plans for C-5A equipped ANG units in Tennessee or West Virginia to be equipped with Globemasters. Without plans for the C-5As to be replaced, there is no follow on mission for these units to take part in.

Contact your Senators and ask them to support continued production of the C-17 Globemaster. In addition to using the “Write to Congress” feature on the EANGUS web site, which can be found at www.eangus.org, contact the local district office of your Senators or Representative to express your concern in this matter. Your email, letter or phone call can make the difference.
